Lake Chala - Day Trip
About Lake Chala Day Trip
Lake Chala, also referred to as Dschalla, is a breathtakingly beautiful natural wonder located on the Borders of Tanzania and Kenya, sitting on the eastern edge of Mount Kilimanjaro. This stunning crater within a caldera is situated just 8km north of Taveta and 55 kms away from Moshi town. The lake boasts an impressive range of colours, varying from deep blue to turquoise and green, depending on the time of year. Furthermore, this magnificent site is enveloped in a 100-meter high crater edge, adding to its awe-inspiring beauty. The lake is primarily supplied by underground groundwater flows, which originate from Mount Kilimanjaro. Additionally, it's essential to note that the lake also receives water from the same underground water flows that drain it underground. Consequently, it loses volume at a rate of approximately ten million m³ per year, which means that Chala's level has dropped by 2.4 meters in the last six years. However, in recent times, the lake's water levels have been on the rise, increasing by over one meter since the beginning of 2011. Due to this lake's exceptional beauty, tourists can now stay and swim in this natural wonder marveling at its captivating elegance, also you can do camping for some few days or staying in the hotels nearby.
